Water "taste" problem

18/06/2008 4:45:00 PM
A MINOR taste problem in the Crookwell water supply last week should be rectified in the next few days.

Upper Lachlan Shire Water and Sewer Manager, Mr. Luke Moloney, reported yesterday that six complaints had been received regarding a "fishy" odour and taste from locations around the town.

Council staff had taken samples from the various sites complained off and flushed mains in the area.

"There are no health concerns with water quality in Crookwell whatsoever," Mr. Moloney said.

Mr. Moloney said the taste and odour is a short term aesthetic problem caused by increased nuisance algae counts and the "turn over" in the Redground dam.

"Very low water consumption rates resulting in longer retention rates in the system have compounded the problem," he added.

Council is utilising its activated carbon plant and flushing mains to address the problem.

"Water leaving the water treatment plant is pristine and I would expect water throughout the town to return to normal in the coming days," Mr. Moloney said.
