SEVEN property owners on the Crookwell - Taralga Road have urged Upper Lachlan Shire Council to allot priority on future upgrading of the road.
The section involved is from the entrance to Redbank to the Carrabungla Bridge.
The landholders held a meeting early last month, and from that came a letter received at Upper Lachlan's last meeting.
Signing the letter were G. Murray, John R. McIntosh, M.J. McIntosh, B. W. McCormack, Leslie McIntosh, N.G. and R.M. Corby and Marita McCormack.
The letter stated that for many years the safety on this section of road had been of great concern to the local community, especially in the Carrabungla area.
"In more recent times the accidents both reported and unreported have risen dramatically," it claimed.
The letter continued:
"A very large school bus travels this road and on some sections has to take up the whole of the carriageway.
"Any money spent in this area would not only assist the immediate community but also with feeder roads coming in from the North East, East and South will assist in the serving of this region, and will encourage the travelling public in the Eastern area of the Shire to travel to Crookwell.
"This section of the road does not require any bridges to be reconstructed.
"The money that has been allocated should see a good section completed - this in turn would mean those travellers from Taralga would have less gravel than if the construction was started from the most easterly end of MR 248.
"As you are well aware there are homes that are located very close to the road and dust has now become a greater problem with the very dry seasons which we are now experiencing.
"We understand most of the materials for the earthworks such as gravel and water will be sourced from the East - this being the case we feel that it would be good policy to transport them over the existing road and not over the newly constructed road.
"In this line of thinking, with the points we have raised, we would like to see the money now in hand spent on this section of the road as soon as possible,"
The letter was received.
